Excellencies of Christ is the teaching ministry of Allen Hood. For 35 years Allen has given himself to one subject, the person of Jesus Christ, and to helping ordinary believers see Him clearly enough to love Him. Everything here grows out of that teaching, and the courses are freely given to pastors, leaders, and communities around the world.
It began with a teacher and a single subject.
Excellencies of Christ takes its name from a course Allen Hood developed and taught over many years of ministry, a course on the beauty and worth of Jesus. In December 2019 Allen founded the ministry so that teaching could keep going, and so it could reach people he would never stand in a room with.
What began as teaching has grown into courses, books, an app, gatherings, and tools for leaders. Allen still teaches nearly all of it. His conviction has held the whole way through: Jesus is the answer, and the Church is still His plan.
We exist to strengthen the local Church. We equip pastors and small-group leaders and put good tools in their hands, and we keep our courses free so that anyone, anywhere, can encounter the person of Jesus.

Allen has spent his ministry on one question: who is Jesus, and what is He like? He has carried that question through 35 years of prayer, study, and teaching in churches and among the nations, and he still asks it with the hunger of a man who has found the answer and wants more of it.
His gift is making deep things near. He will take you back before the world began, to the eternal Son with the Father, through the incarnation and the cross and the life of the Spirit, and then turn and show you that this same God knows you by name and delights in you. In Allen’s teaching, theology and tenderness arrive together.
Much of what he teaches he learned on his knees, sometimes the hard way. One of those lessons, which runs through nearly every course, is that the Father’s love was never based on his performance.
Allen leads Excellencies of Christ as its founder and president. He leads with a clear sense of what the ministry is for, and with a desire for Jesus that has only deepened over the years. His hope for everything we make is simple: that it would help someone know Jesus and love Him wholeheartedly.
Allen holds a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. He and Rachel make their home in Lexington, Kentucky, and they have three grown sons, Samuel, Jonathan, and Joshua.

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully divine and fully human — the clearest revelation of the Father and the center of all Scripture.
The Authority of Scripture
The Bible is the inspired, trustworthy Word of God, the final authority for faith and life.
The Gospel of Grace
Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, a free gift received, not a reward earned.
The Life of the Spirit
The Holy Spirit indwells every believer, transforming us into the likeness of Jesus and empowering the Church for her mission.
The Local Church
The Church is Christ's ongoing plan — local, embodied, and essential to the life of discipleship.
The Hope of Christ's Return
